Town in the river, cradle of Mark Brandenburg region, the town which provided its name to the federal state of Brandenburg, birthplace of the well known cartoonist and comedian Vicco von Bülow alias Loriot – Brandenburg city has many claims to fame. The third largest city in the federal state of Brandenburg has a more than 1,000 years long history behind it and therefore there is a lot to see. Three different medieval town centres, the cathedral island, the Brennabor vehicle models exhibition, the story around bits and bytes in the computer museum, the famous Brandenburg symphony orchestra in the theatre, Loriots trail, of Loriot, idyllic places at the Havel waterfront and opposite our hotel the symbol of the city – Roland the Knight hewn in stone in front of the historic town hall. Dom Sankt Peter und Paul cathedral


The construction of the cathedral on the cathedral island began 1165. Completed in the middle of the 13th century. The cathedral owes its present appearance to numerous conversions and renovations in 1836. Well worth seeing the Baroque organ by Johann Joachim Wagner as well as the high altar with the outstanding carving virgin and the cathedral museum.

Infant buggies, bicycles, motorcycles were produced here up until the end of the second world war. Nowadays, contemporary art is the focal point of the Kunsthalle; located in a former fabrication hall of the listed Brennabor factory; supported by the theatre. For those with interest in art, it’s worthwhile heading to the extensive art space with 700 sqm.

The bridge received its name on the occasion of the 1,000th anniversary of the city in 1929. In the medieval times the first wooden bridge stood here which connected the old and new town over the Havel river with each other. The bridge was replaced by a wooden bascule bridge called Lange Brücke bridge in 1860. Later by an iron bridge, lastly by a steel-concrete bridge. In the middle age the authority pronounced judgement here, the bridge is a popular gathering point to relax today.

The trail leads through the city and is also probably the only trail where you can catch a sense of history of the city.
