In the centre of the old town of Cottbus, the Sorat Hotel Cottbus opened in March 1995. The friendly hotel is situated at the Schloßkirchplatz in the Cottbus pedestrian zone. It is part of the construction project Quartier am Schloßkirchplatz, where an entire district of the town has been restored, thus having become one of the most attractive locations in Cottbus. The entrance of the Sorat Hotel Cottbus is located in a restored turn-of-the century building, its stucco front facing the Schlosskirche church. Most of the guest rooms are in a newly built appendix and feature modern design. 98 rooms are an easy-to-overlook size and enable personal contact with the guests. All rooms are equipped with a desk, direct-dial telephone, wifi fax and PC plug, flat TV, radio, air condition, minibar, bath with shower, full-length mirror and hair drier, some with safe. The sumptuous breakfast buffet offers a great variety for every taste, from cereals and scrambled eggs to salmon and sparkling wine. In the beautiful historic cellar arches, a charming meeting place have been installed. Accommodating 30 persons, it is ideal for meetings. For small or larger meetings two bright and very quiet meeting rooms are available; for up to 70 persons. The hotel leisure facilities include a gym, bicycle rentals and a playroom for children. The hotel also has its own charging stations for electric bikes and electric cars in the public underground car park.
Cottbus as a destination
Cottbus is famous as gateway to the Spreewald and the Lausitz region. Arriving in Cottbus, the visitor becomes aware that there is also marked another term: Chosebuz, its Sorbian name. All the street signs are bilingual, too, taking into account the Sorbian minority. The customs and culture of this Slavic people were preserved until nowadays and are still alive in the Lausitz villages around Cottbus, like for example Zapust, the Sorbian carnival, the Easter horse riding or the traditional harvest festivals. The Spreewald reaches the city of Cottbus with its fringes. In 1991, parts of this unique landscape of more than 47.000 hectares have been protected by UNESCO as a biosphere reservation. A very popular way of discovering the Spreewald is by the traditional flat-bottomed boats, or with your individual canoe - 400 kilometres of its waterway systems are passable. Cottbus itself offers a wide range of interesting sights. Its town centre is surrounded by medieval towers and portals. On the Altmarkt, you will find beautiful old townsmen houses, the Stadtmuseum [City Museum] and the Apothekenmuseum [historic pharmacy with pharmacy museum]. And the Art Nouveau theatre, built in 1908, is also worth a visit.
