Sorat Hotel Görlitz is located in the city centre of wonderful Görlitz, the easternmost German city. This charming hotel was installed in a beautiful Art Nouveau building which was carefully restored and then equipped with all modern amenities.
The Wonderful City of Görlitz
The towers of Görlitz, Germany's easternmost city, are lying idyllically above the river Neisse. The Neisse forms the border to Poland: on the other side, you will find the Polish "Zgorzelec". One single bridge is connecting the two parts of the city after the Second World War, apart from the impressing railway Viaduct from 1847. The "villa Gorelitz" was mentionned for the first time in a document in the year 1071. At the beginning of the 19th century, the first cloth factories and wool-spinnning mills were founded, followed by the food industry, the car and machine-building industry and optics. During the following years, many cultural activities concentrated in Görlitz, for example the renowned Silesian music festivals.
Exploring the town is a unique historical experience: You will find about 3500 architectural monuments of different epochs. Among them one of the most important Renaissance building, the "Schönhof", built after a big fire the town suffered in 1525, the Renaissance town hall or the numerous old houses of the wealthy citizens of Baroque, Historicism and Jugendstil. Even nowadays, you still feel medieval atmosphere in some corners of the old part of the town.
Although Görlitz has not been destroyed during the Second World War, forty years of socialism have left their traces. Today, the city receives additional financial support from a redevelopment programme by the federal government and the state of Saxony. Thus, over 800 facades have been restored so far.
